Texas is a land of variety when it comes to geological features, but there are few natural lakes of great size in the state. Most of the lakes are reservoirs that were created by damming rivers. Lake Travis is one of these human-made reservoirs. The construction of Mansfield Dam on the Colorado River was responsible for the formation of the reservoir in 1942. Although the primary reason for the dam’s construction was to control regional flooding, Lake Travis is also a critical water supply for Austin and the towns surrounding it. It also generates electrical power and is a popular recreational area. Over the years, Lake Travis has hosted numerous boat shows, regattas, and other water activities. In September 2019, the annual Lake Travis In the Water Boat Show was held at Hurst Harbor Marina. To prepare for the event, Hurst Joint Ventures asked Alpha Paving for help.

Who Is Hurst Joint Ventures?
Hurst Joint Ventures is comprised of two marinas on Lake Travis. The Crosswater Yacht Club opened in 2013 and is the newest marina on Lake Travis. Hurst Harbor Marina was established in 1975. Between the two marinas, boaters can find a full-service fuel dock, a ship’s store, and a service department. Both marinas are operated by Suntex Marinas, a premier marina group with headquarters in Dallas, that manages or owns marinas in several states.
What Work Did Alpha Paving Perform at Hurst Harbor Marina?
In the past, we have provided our services to both marinas. The job this time was to completely overhaul the parking lot at Hurst Harbor Marina to prepare for the boat show. The project took three days to complete. We applied all necessary patches and an asphalt overlay. This work required more than 270 tons of asphalt. We then applied sealcoating, which required approximately 750 gallons of sealant. The final step was to stripe the parking lot.
The parking lot looked great, and we completed our work in time for the opening festivities. There were almost 300 new boats in the water from numerous manufacturers, including Harris Pontoons, Boston Whaler, Scarab Jet Boats, and Bayliner. The three-day event drew crowds to see the boats, but there were also food trucks and live music to add to the fun.
