From time to time, general contractors subcontract certain project tasks to Alpha Paving, especially if the tasks are not ones that the general contractor typically performs. This is the situation that arose when the City of Austin hired MGC Contractors to handle a project in 2020. MGC specializes in wastewater treatment and water production throughout New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona. It was Alpha’s first time to work with MGC.

What Tasks Did MGC Ask Alpha to Complete?
The scope of MGC’s work included trenching through the band lot at McCallum High School. After MGC completed their utility work, we repaved the parking lot. Next, we designed a new layout for the band lot and parking areas. As we have striped numerous pavements for high school marching bands to use for their practices, we knew that both the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the University Interscholastic League have precise specifications for the markings, so we made sure that we complied with the specifications as well as the specifications provided by MGC and the high school.
We used a standard white marking paint to stripe the band lot. For the parking lines, we used a special muted yellow paint to comply with the specifications provided by McCallum High School. It took approximately 10 hours for us to complete the layout and initial application of the paints. The specifications called for two coats of paint, so we returned about two weeks later and applied a second coat of paint to all markings in the parking areas and band lot. We look forward to working with MGC Contractors again.
