Welcome Group can trace its history to two brothers, Jack E. Wilson and Welcome Wilson Sr. From the late 1950s until the 1990s, the Wilson brothers developed numerous residential and resort properties in Galveston and Houston, including what are now the independent cities of Tiki Island and Jamaica Beach. In 1998, the brothers purchased GSL Constructors; the purchase included four industrial buildings that were already under construction. Additional purchases of industrial facilities followed, and the Wilsons began to focus exclusively on industrial real estate. Their portfolio grew to include integrated manufacturing facilities, special purpose facilities, and complicated laboratories. By the end of 2019, Welcome Group owned industrial facilities in approximately 100 locations. When Welcome Group needed a paving contractor to rejuvenate the parking lot at Plaza 35, they asked Alpha Paving to handle the work.

What Work Did Alpha Paving Perform at Plaza 35?
Plaza 35 lies alongside Interstate 35 in the northern part of Austin. Numerous technology companies are adjacent or nearby, including the Austin GM Innovation Center, True Source Labs, the Dell Parmer Campus, the Home Depot Innovation Center, 3M, and the Samsung Austin Research and Development Center.
We milled approximately 42,519 square feet of asphalt pavement to a depth of two inches. We replaced the removed material with an asphalt overlay of equal depth. This required 550 tons of Type D asphalt. We also removed and replaced a strip of damaged concrete that measured 34 feet by 2.5 feet. Next, we striped and marked the area of the pavement affected by the work. Our final task was to install a stop sign on an existing pole. We completed the job on Monday, February 3.
